HTC Vive Cosmos VR Family Coming To The U.S. This Spring

Once a tech giant almost as versatile as LG, modern-day HTC has definitely seen better days. But it does have one thing going for it, and that happens to be virtual reality.

So, it is no surprise that the company is now expanding its family of premium VR hardware with a product range that isn’t just high-end but also highly customizable. In fact, that appears to be the main differentiator between the Vive Cosmos lineup debuted today and past head-mounted gear from HTC. Well, that and higher pixel counts, but those are kind of a given in this fast-moving age.

Anyway, a large part of the Vive Cosmos push revolves around the Vive Cosmos Elite bundle, a $899 tech combo catering to complete newcomers to VR. Set to be released in the U.S. by late March, this bundle packs the titular VR headgear, Vive controllers, room-scale sensors, and Valve’s Half-Life: Alyx, perhaps the most impressive VR game to date. Outside of this rookie welcome package, today’s announcement saw the unveiling of the Vive Cosmos XR, a modular flagship HMD with an interchangeable faceplate, as well as the mid-range VIVE Cosmos Play.

HTC is still figuring out specific availability details for these individual products, though it has at least confirmed that the Vive Cosmos Elite bundle will become available for pre-orders in the United States this Friday, February 24th.
