Review: TekNMotion Real Glass Screen Shield for iPhone 5

I’m just going to come out and say it: I am horrifically bad at installing screen shields. Whenever a company contacts me to review one for them, I get incredibly nervous that I’ll ultimately end up failing the installation, rendering the screen shield useless. However, Larry, our editor-in-chief, has been keen on tempered glass screen shields as of late, and he convinced me that I needed to try one out. I got to test TekNMotion’s Real Glass Screen Shield, and I’m happy to report that Larry was absolutely right. Hit the jump to read more.

Installation

Like I said, I was nervous when I cracked open the packaging to install the product. Larry hinted that the key to a good glass screen shield installation was a _very_ clean screen.Thankfully, TekNMotion includes a glass cleaning wipe in the package. I simply used that, and nothing else, to clean my screen. It worked really great.

The screen shield has two backing covers, just like other types of screen shields. One side has the adhesive, while the other acts as a protector while you push out the air bubbles from underneath. TekNMotion’s iteration of the screen shield features top and bottom colored sections to match the color of your phone. I received the black version, and it matched up perfectly to my iPhone’s existing color.

Glass Screen Shields vs. Traditional Screen Shields

Real glass screen shields differ dramatically from their polyurethane counterparts. While I used to think that the difference in clarity between the two types was probably minimal, I couldn’t have been more wrong. After installing TekNMotion’s iteration of a glass screen shield, it’s apparent to me that glass screen shields provide the same amount of clarity as if there was no screen shield at all. In a conversation with Larry, he told me that after you’ve used a glass screen shield, you can’t go back. He’s absolutely right.

Wrap-up

TekNMotion’s Real Glass Screen Shield is fantastic. After being wary about installing it, I’m glad that I got to the chance. It’s opened up my eyes to the idea of real glass screen shields. Had I taken this route earlier, my iPhone 5 would have less scratches on the screen. I opted to not have a screen shield at all because I was unwilling to sacrifice the clarity of the iPhone 5′s Retina display. The TekNMotion Real Glass Screen Shield retails for $34.99 and can be picked up on Compuexpert’s website.
