Quick Guide – Old School Runescape Wilderness Slayer

From the days of gaining tier 1 emblems to the present, with a fully fleshed-out wilderness slayer cave and Larran’s keys, Wilderness Slayer has never been better.

Wilderness Slayer in OSRS is perfect for accounts aiming to profit much earlier from the skill. With the added loot tables from Bounty Hunter and Larran’s Keys, Wilderness Slayer becomes profitable even at Level 1 Slayer. Continue reading for our quick guide on getting started with Wilderness Slayer in OSRS.

Gear

When gearing up for Wilderness Slayer, it’s crucial to limit yourself to three items. While technically you can bring four with the Protect Item prayer, many prime locations for Wilderness Slayer are in multi-combat, risking being Smited by a group of player killers. Here are a few load-outs that minimize risk for maximum power:

Melee

Ranged

Magic

Typically, the three items you’ll protect will be a Slayer Helmet, a Weapon, and support for that weapon such as a Dragon Defender. Only risk cheap items and untradeables such as:

  • Ava’s Accumulator
  • Monk Robes
  • Amulet of Glory
  • Mithril Gloves
  • Climbing Boots

Additionally, with all your other gear and a good blocklist (see picture below), you’ll never have a slayer task you cannot use the Dwarf Cannon for, making this an essential upgrade when you can afford it. Remember, if you have your cannon placed and die to a player killer, you keep it, so never pick up your cannon unless you are going to immediately teleport out.

Navigation

Navigating the Wilderness for a wilderness slayer is quite simple. The primary method you’ll be using to get around is the Games Necklace, with the Burning Amulet being a close second.

Previously, the Burning Amulet was superior. However, a recent patch changed how Chaos Druids work, and around half the time they will automatically tele-block you on your way to the Wilderness Slayer Cave.

Instead, you’ll use the Corporeal Beast teleport on the Games Necklace, exit, and run east to enter the Wilderness Slayer cave without worrying about a tele-block.

Some tasks like Spiders will require burning amulet teleports to easily get to optimal locations to kill them.

Escaping Player Killers

Player killers are a necessary evil in Wilderness Slayer. Without them, the rewards wouldn’t be as good as they are. Fortunately, there are a few ways to combat the inevitable.

First and foremost is having a level 30 teleport. If you’re a lower level, you will likely use an Amulet of Glory as your teleport method. A good practice is to use Runelite’s feature to change your left-click options to teleport to Edgeville while it is equipped. This will make your Glory a 1-click teleport in the equipment menu.

Another insanely beneficial escape method is using a plugin on Runelite that is borderline cheating (in our opinion). That plugin is Wilderness Player Alarm.

Wilderness Player Alarm can be adjusted to automatically flash your screen when another player enters your render distance. If you have your mouse over your teleport and click as soon as you see a flash, it will be impossible for you to get caught, guaranteeing your escape.

Block List

Finally, you will want to run the following block list:

You will skip tasks like pirates, skeletons, and bandits in favor of tasks that take you into the Wilderness Slayer Cave.

Hopefully this quick guide will get you started when it comes to Wilderness Slayer, and you can progress your account to get to the profitable Slayer levels for normal Slayer.
