New night combat coming soon to Gray Zone Warfare

The update to Gray Zone Warfare, which is coming soon, will add a day/night cycle, which brings a whole new hardcore dimension to exploration, combat, and realism in the tactical FPS.

You may recognize popular extraction and loot shooters such as Arena Breakout Infinite, Level Zero Extraction, Delta Force, and Escape From Tarkov, but you may not recognize Gray Zone Warfare, which was released in April.

Gray Zone’s PvE-led experience has sold a million copies, and despite the recent player count dropoff (due to players finishing all of the tasks and new, fresh content), the game is here to stay. The developers continue to work on adding more new content while addressing the issues that have consistently been plaguing the game since its launch.

Game-Changing Day/Night Cycle

The Madfinger team is preparing to deliver a game-changing overhaul by introducing a day/night cycle. This new cycle will require you to re-adapt how you play the game. You will not only have to adapt to the new gameplay but also learn how to use the new tactical gear and new loot that is coming to the game.

The update will feature more buildings to enter with dynamic points of interest and additional high-value loot out in the world. You can expect plenty of gear, such as the iconic MP5, flashlights, NVGs, and lasers to help you survive in the dark with attachments so you can tweak them to your play style.

The team has even replicated the Southeast Asian sky, matching constellations seen in the real world. They have also tweaked how the AI behaves at night, with soldiers sleeping, taking reduced patrols, and using night vision and flashlights.

Light Matters in Gray Zone Warfare

During the preview, you can easily see that ambient light in more open areas might make it easy to see, and in areas such as the jungle, the surroundings will get much darker. But Madfinger says the new night vision goggles and flashlight option will be as realistic as possible. The AN/PVS-14 is a popular monocular night vision solution, although they say two-eyed options will also be available.

The unique gaming ability to wear this over your right eye while still being able to see the surrounding area with your left eye will provide an overwhelmingly more realistic experience. Not only will you be able to see at night, but some of the military enemies will be well-equipped. They have also been modeled accurately, and their light will spread based on the position they are mounted on your weapon, throwing shadows from the barrel and scope.

Lasers are another option that could help you land your shots in lower-light/night conditions. They can also be ideal for coordinating with your teammates. You can wave them up into the sky to quickly pinpoint your location to your team, but this can also give away your position. There is also the option to employ infrared lasers that can only be seen while wearing night vision goggles, but enemies also wearing them can see it.

Flashlights can also be helpful in blinding and disorienting enemy combatants, but they can also be used against you. The light could also attract attention to your position.

Additionally, bullet tracers can help you adjust your aim during longer-range gunfights for immediate feedback on your shot trajectories.

Update, Fixes, and Wipe

The team at Madfinger also promised that they are listening to the gaming community and they are implementing more fixes based on the feedback they have received. One notable fix is that the helicopter times will be reduced by not only spawning at the base but also at other points in the map. The helicopter speed will also be faster. Hopefully, this will reduce the wait times significantly and make the gameplay more enjoyable by allowing players to get back into the game quickly. With AI overpowered, they say that they have found the problem and will be fixed/reduced for better gaming.

MADFINGER’s Rick Lagnese says that a wipe is “100% necessary” because of all the new features and mechanics being implemented. Once you install the new update, your account will be reset, and your journey will begin again from scratch.
