The Vansuny 1TB USB 3.2 Gen 2 SSD

For today’s review, we’re looking at the Vansuny 1 Terabyte USB Type-C & 3.2 Gen 2 SSD. In this quick dive into this SSD (Solid State Drive), Vansuny promises to deliver high read-write speeds and reliability. We will compare it to three similar USB drives to see how it compares.

Competitors:

  • Vansuny
  • LIAWOC
  • Hynix Tube
  • Blanbok+

Vansuny Specifications

Before we begin, here is a list of the drive’s physical specifications:

  • Capacity: 1TB (954 gigabytes usable)
  • Weight: 1.4oz
  • Size: 3 Inches
  • Material: Aluminum

The physical attributes of the Vansuny thumb drive feel solid and durable. It feels heavy compared to other drives, which isn’t a detriment; it doesn’t feel cheap. The aluminum finish looks pleasant and appealing, and it’s clear Vansuny put effort into the overall aesthetic of the thumb drive.

Read Speeds

Like all storage devices, read speed is one of the most critical factors. Read speed determines how quickly you can access your files, whether you’re pulling up documents, photos, or videos. The Vansuny storage drive advertises up to 1,000 Megabytes a second; however, in practice, we saw much less at an average of 480 Megabytes a second over ten CrystalDiskMark tests. Slower than advertised read speeds are normal because maximum data rates don’t translate well with practical and real-world workloads. While the drive can reach the advertised speeds, most workloads won’t be optimal to achieve that.

One of Vansuny’s competitors, the Hynix Tube, reaches equivalent speeds because it uses the same USB standard (USB 3.2 Gen 2). In our tests, Vansuny massively outperforms the other two USB drives that use the older 3.0 standard while remaining equivalent to its closest competitor.

  • Vansuny: 465.95 MB/s
  • Hynix Tube: 457.56 MB/s
  • LIAWOC: 86.72 MB/s
  • Blanbok+: 25.79 MB/s

Write Speeds

Writing speed is crucial when dealing with large files, such as videos, backups, editing, data transfer, or game data. The Vansuny SSD delivers a similar average to its read speed of around 440 MB/s. It underperformed its closest competitor over an average of 10 tests, albeit slightly. The Vansuny continues to stand well ahead of its USB 3.0 counterparts, making its speeds overwhelmingly faster in real-world workloads.

  • Vansuny: 454.27 MB/s
  • Hynix Tube: 464.58 MB/s
  • LIAWOC: 23.21 MB/s
  • Blanbok+: 14.05 MB/s

USB Standard

As mentioned, the USB standard determines the connection speed and compatibility with different devices. The Vansuny SSD uses USB 3.2 Gen 2, which primarily hit the market in 2019. This standard offers up to 10 Gb/s speeds and is twice as fast as USB 3.0 at a maximum of 5 Gb/s. USB 3.2 Gen 2 ensures that the limiting factor of data rates is the drive itself.

  • Vansuny: USB 3.2 Gen 2
  • Hynix Tube: USB 3.2 Gen 2
  • LIAWOC: USB 3.0
  • Blanbok+: USB 3.0

Cost per Gigabtye

Lastly, the price-to-storage ratio is one of the most important factors when choosing a storage drive. The Vansuny is massively competitive compared to the drives listed in this article and can even compete with the heavy hitters of the storage drive world. It costs $1 per 12.47 Gigabtyes, placing it firmly ahead of the competitors in this assessment.

  • Vansuny: $1 for 12.47 Gigabtyes
  • Hynix Tube: $1 for 11.35 Gigabtyes
  • LIAWOC: $1 for 8.2 Gigabtyes
  • Blanbok+: $1 for 6.4 Gigabtyes

Conclusion

Our assessments made during our tests have resulted in a clear winner. Vansuny has placed itself firmly in first place among similar branded devices tested in this article. The performance is so strong that we highly recommend this USB SSD drive due to its excellent speeds and price.
