Review: SwitchEasy FLIP Case for the iPhone 5 and 5s

A folio style case is a great way to provide 360 degree protection for your iPhone while enjoying some style at the same time.  I’ve tested a few folio style cases for the iPhone 5 and 5s but haven’t really loved any of them.  While at CES this year I stopped to chat with my friends at SwitchEasy and had a chance to check out their new offerings.  The FLIP case, which comes in five colors, feature a cool magnetic lock which keeps the front flap closed when you’re not using the case.  The case gives full access to all of your phone’s ports and controls and the faux leather should last the life of your phone too.  Want to see more of the SwitchEasy FLIP case for the iPhone 5 and 5s?  Check out my full review below.

Read on through for my full review and be sure to catch the video at the end of the review for a more up close and personal look at the SwitchEasy FLIP Case for the iPhone 5 and 5s.

Inside the packaging you’ll find the case along two crystal clear, front screen protectors, instructions, a microfiber cloth and a screen protector installation card.

Here’s what SwitchEasy has to say about the FLIP Case for the iPhone 5 and 5s.

  • State of the art reinforced faux leather cover
  • Magnetic Lock
  • Easy touch button access

The SwitchEasy FLIP Case for the iPhone 5 and 5s comes in five different colors.  You can select from White, Black, Green, Orange or Pink.

The outside of the FLIP case is made from faux leather.  It’s stiff and smooth to the touch.  On the front outside portion of the case you’ll find a small SwitchEasy logo.  At the top of the flap there’s a cutout for the phone’s ear piece so that you’ll be able to use your phone to make and receive calls even with the front cover in the closed position.

Inside the case a faux leather coated shell awaits the insertion of your iPhone 5 or 5s.  Unlike other cases of this type you don’t snap your phone into the case.  Instead the phone slides into the case from the top.  Once inside it’s a very tight fit and I never once felt as though the phone might come out of the case by accident.

A strong magnet holds the front flap of the case closed when you’re not using your phone.  I did notice that I had to close the flap a certain way, sort of pushing it towards the edge, to get the magnet to engage.  While inside the case you’ll have full access to your iPhone’s top and bottom ports and controls.  Since this is a folio style case the speaker, microphone, sleep/awake button and headset jack all remain free and clear of obstruction.  You will have to open the case however to get to the phone’s vibrate switch and volume buttons.

On the back side of the case you’ll find a small, pill shaped opening for the phone’s rear facing camera, secondary microphone and LED flash.  There’s also more SwitchEasy branding towards the bottom of the case as well.

While the SwitchEasy FLIP case doesn’t offer any sort of wallet functionality like some of the other folio style cases do what it does offer is a superb fit and finish.  The case fits the iPhone 5 or 5s like a glove and feels great in the hand.  If you need 360 degree protection for your phone but would rather not wrap it up inside rubber and plastic a folio style case can be a great option.  The SwitchEasy FLIP case comes in five colors, it has a cool magnet style closure flap and it looks great too.  Check out the SwitchEasy FLIP case for the iPhone 5 or 5s today.
